Year 4 York Residential 2017 Group 1

Date: 27th Mar 2017 @ 8:29pm

Day 1:

At 9:00am this morning we set off on a very comfy coach to York. It took us about 2 hours to get there, which gave us plenty of time to chat or even have a nap!

When we arrived in York we got all our bags off the coach and put our bags into the centre before eating our lunches. Following lunch, we jumped back onto the coach and went into York. Here we walked around all of the sights. These were; Cliffords Tower, The Shambles, The river Ouse, the city walls and York Minster, At York minster we stopped and did some sketching before walking back to the centre to find out our rooms, unpack and have our evening meal.

Tonights tea was burger and chips, it was Yummy. After tea, we went down onto the racecourse where we played lots of games. Some of us played football which finished 8-7 and the rest of us played tag or rounders.

We have all had a lovely day and are now very tired but excited about our day busy day tomorrow.

Day 2

After all having an excellent sleep (we didn’t keep the adults up too long, honestly!) we had a delicious breakfast of all day breakfast, pancakes and syrup, yoghurts, fruit salad and toast, Yummy!

We then got on the coach into York and to the Jorvik Dig. Here we got to dig in an archaeological site from the Victorians, The Romans, The Saxons and The Vikings Mimi said “the dig was amazing because we got to look for bones”

After lunch we walked across York to the railway museum. Once inside the museum, we had a treasure hunt to complete, which was really hard as it’s a really big place. John and Josh’s favourite part of being at the museum today was being able to explore all of the different steam trains from the past, in particular finding the steam train that was built in Crewe.  Also, whilst at the railway museum we took part in two workshops. In the first workshop we learned all about the Victorian railways, we got to look in an old 3rd class and 1st class carriage and also find out about various jobs people in Victorian times would do. The second workshop was all about how to build bridges. The first bridge we learnt about was a caveman/cavewoman bridge. Poppy got to build this bridge and she said “I really enjoyed building the bridge and being given my cavewoman name of Ugg”

Finally, we have finished our day by taking part in York’s got talent. There were some fantastic acts and the judges; Miss Marshmallow, Mr Grumpy, Mrs Saddocks, Mrs Clueless are still deciding the winners!
